Interviews and a Freebie!

Well, school FINALLY ended Friday and I despised enjoyed sitting at home while it rained today.  My husband remembers that it always seemed to rain when he was on summer break as a child, but that was in Scotland, not California.  What's going on?!

Tomorrow I will sit on the interview committee that is searching for a new principal.  My current principal is retiring and our year round school starts up at the end of July.  We don't have much time to find someone who will have a few short weeks to learn everything there is to know about our elementary school.  Needless to say, I am nervous and hope things go well tomorrow.  Have you ever interviewed potential principals?  I would love to hear how it went for you.

While I was avoiding going out in the rain today, I created this math fact color code freebie and you are welcome to download it from one of my teacher stores.  It will be helpful the first week of school when I am assessing students, but can be used anytime throughout the year.  I love this cute turtle!  Enjoy and thanks for visiting my blog today!

  1. Oh I miss working in a year round school! I loved getting more time off during the year- when I really needed it! I haven't sat in a principal interview before, but that is fantastic that they allow the teachers to be in on the process! We do that for new teachers, but I'm not sure if we do for principals. Maybe I'll get that question answered this year as our principal left to another school, and we'll be needing a new one! It's such a scary thing getting someone new in charge, but I guess that's a constant thing in our life as an educator. I wish you luck! :)

Oh and I'm following you now! (haha it sounds so stalker-ish saying that!)

    1. Hi Amanda! I agree that it is scary to hire someone new because it impacts everyone in the community. It is a very interesting process and I'm lucky to be a part of it. Three teachers from my site are on the committee, which I think is great. We do love our year round schedule, although I miss the longer summers in a traditional calendar. Six weeks go by quickly! Fortunately, we get a break in September/October when everyone feels burnt out. Thanks for following me; I'm a follower, too!

  2. I am on the panel to interview Principal candidates even as we speak. We started yesterday. It is a great experience and very enlightening in terms of how your school runs and operates. I will say this, it is mentally and emotionally draining because it becomes personal. Having gone through 5 interviews so far, I will offer this, really look to see if the candidates will fit in with the culture and spirit of the school. Would they fit I with the school's philosophy and support the staff's efforts to maintain that philosophy and last, what is their leadership style in terms of leading the students staff and the parent community.?
Good luck Heather! Emai me if you want to swap experiences!

  12. What a terrific freebie!
I'm impressed how your district does the principal interview. Our superintendent appoints the person, done, no questions asked, have a nice day! Luckily we got an amazing new leader this year when our principal retired!
